The growing economic crisis has triggered collective panic, and for 99% of people, it is imperative to restore as much liquidity as possible. Logically, we are facing a liquidity crisis that is having a significant impact on the liquidity of all financial markets around the world. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Index has fallen by 20% in the past 5 days. Over the past month, the Dow Jones Index has fallen by about 30%, and the S & P 500 has undergone the same adjustment.

In the rest of the world, the situation is exactly the same. For centuries, gold has been used as a safe-haven asset in times of crisis, but in recent days it has fallen by more than 10%.

When everyone is in panic, there is no safe haven at all. In this case, it is impossible for Bitcoin to not fall. Bitcoin is a highly liquid market, and it can even be said that it is the only truly free market in the world.

Even though Bitcoin has evaporated $ 60 billion in market value in just a few hours, it continues to operate, allowing investors to find equilibrium prices on their own.

Whether an asset has hedging properties requires long-term measurement. Similarly, the correlation between Bitcoin and other assets cannot be concluded in these days. At this point, if we step back, we can see the big picture instead.

Bitcoin is as scarce as ever

Unique monetary policy

Bitcoin was created by Satoshi Nakamoto in response to the 2008 financial crisis. In the future, bitcoin's annual supply inflation will tend to zero, and will reach zero in 2140, at which time all bitcoin will be mined.

Roundtable Discussion on Prosperity and Opportunities, Technologies and Mechanisms That Shape The Future of DeFi

Last week, Anthurine, CMO of QuarkChain, joined a roundtable discussion that was organized by Guowei Finance. Here is the summary.
Q1: When any new thing is born, it would undergo different stages from birth, to budding, to emerging, to prospering, and finally to becoming a common utility. DeFi is one of the examples. Currently, more and more users are participating in DeFi loans and more entrepreneurs are joining the DeFi industry with over 1000 projects. Can you share with us what your expectations are for this industry regarding its future growth and scale, given its skyrocketing scale, high growth, and lockup volume?
A1: The previous guests had already given us a great overview on the latest developments in DeFi. While we should not omit a number of problems that it presents recently, especially regarding financial assets, DeFi on the whole presents itself as a more open and more convenient financial application with great future potential. The problems that are present now will not shake the foundation of DeFi development but to expose some problems early on and make DeFi even stronger.
DeFi has several advantages: firstly, it can lower the costs by replacing some tasks done by the central node and rebate these saved costs to other participants.
Secondly, it offers a high level of transparency. Currently financial institutions are highly specialized to a degree that even Warren Buffett did not understand the prospectus of the subprime mortgages. The contracts behind DeFi products are open, which is a stark contrast to traditional financial products that are wrapped around in layers.
Thirdly, DeFi bears a high level of openness and convenience. Centralized institutions require high levels of regulations that are of high costs. In Comparison, DeFi opens for everyone to participate.
However, there are still some problems with DeFi. Currently, because of some problems with ease of operations and cost of learning, its user base is not scaling enough and cannot rely on the law of large numbers like traditional finance does to guarantee its security. As a result, security depends entirely on the code of projects and such dynamics has exposed several problems. For instance, the oracle manipulation attack several weeks ago or the more recent ERC777 contract loophole attack, these attacks prompted many DeFi to employ some centralized methods to guarantee security.
The above reasons lead to only a small circle of people using DeFi and yet to evangelize.
As for expectations regarding the future, I see a possibility where existing DeFi will combine with traditional finance, also known as cefi, to enhance the transparency of the network and improve efficiency by using DeFi to lower the cost of DeFi. On the other hand, cefi will bring in the user scale and a wide suite of products and thus provide better services for more people, enabling DeFi to become an open finance.
Going back to the present, with the negative interest rate in the backdrop, traditional finance is coming to blockchain for better yields. If we can seize the opportunity to marry defi and cefi well, then the combined effect will increase the existing scale of DeFi dramatically. It can be ten-fold or hundred-fold; it’s difficult to estimate.
Q2: Currently, there are some noticeable trends in the space, one is regarding users and the other regarding industry. After we see some attacks occured recently, we also discovered the 7-day lockup amount has increased significantly. Such discovery is an intriguing one and what are your thoughts on that? Does this trend show that DeFi has obtained the basic trust of the user and is enjoying the scale of its user base to participate in the market?
Recently, the lockup amount has increased yet the number of participating accounts did not grow at a corresponding rate. The two pieces of statistics point to the fact that scaled participation has not taken place yet. Another clear mark is that ETH is not congested recently. So I think we are a few miles away from reaching the scaling effect.
It also means that, rather than more people are participating, this phenomenon is taking place as the existing liquidity is staked into contracts. The increase in assets confirms the trust towards DeFi and the optimism asset holders have regarding the DeFi development. Even though DeFi has been a hot topic for the past few months, compared to the community of cryptocurrencies, DeFi remains a much smaller circle since its application is difficult to use with security concerns. The phenomenon of huge increase in lock-up amount can be attributed to the promotion of DeFi on media outlets which brings in new users who discover the functions and values of DeFi. However, whether these users and capital will stay for the long time will remain in question.
Macroeconomic reasons also played a huge role in the increase in lock-up. There are limited ideas in the secondary markets to make a profit with negative yield in the traditional financial market. Even the US crude oil dropped below zero for the first time in history! To hedge against risks in traditional markets, more capital flew into DeFi.
Q3: It would suffice to say that DeFi is really ‘hot’ now and attracts eyeballs from many. Currently, most of the DeFi products and platforms are running on existing public chains like Maker running top of the Ethereum platform and EOS REX on top of EOS. Among all the ecosystem use cases, DeFi is the application that has the highest volume. So what are some of the things necessary from public chains to provide in order to promote and support DeFi platform development? From a public chain system standpoint, what kind of improvement and enhancement are necessary in DeFi systems in terms of technologies and mechanisms?
Currently, DeFi applications are running on top of the Ethereum platform. Because of the design of Ethereum, these DeFi applications bear a few problems:
  1. Slow operations. Network speed is slow and project developments is slow as the date for ETH2.0 to go live remains unknown
  2. Smart contract tokens cannot directly deploy smart contracts and require additional developments. Every time one would require to have transaction fees using ETH, which lowers the composability and ease of use for DeFi.
  3. Security issues
QuarkChain has strategic approaches targeting DeFi. Since its inception, QuarkChain aims to design the next generation of DeFi network with these goals: higher security, lower transactions, high usability, and more convenience. The QuarkChain team develops its own infrastructure layer using the heterogeneous sharding framework. The framework solves all the existing problems faced by Ethereum and provides plenty of functionalities to make DeFi easier to use.
Let me give you a quick overview of what heterogenous sharding is before we further delve into the approach in DeFi of QuarkChain.
Bitcoin, anonymous tokens like ZCash and Grin, ETH, EOS, and all the pubic chains are all considered under the bigger umbrella of blockchain technology.The essence of blockchain technology comes from the arrangement and combination of the following four components:
At present,for many public chains, the four elements are fixed. Once a consensus, a transaction mode, an ledger model and a token economics are selected, they can no longer be changed, which limits the flexibility and adaptability of the whole blockchain system.
QuarkChain is the first public chain that implemented heterogenous sharding technology. Heterogenous sharding treats each shard as one chain and each chain can configure the four components we mentioned based on its needs. Such design allows new technologies to be incorporated into a chain and such chains can be embedded into the overall system design easily. So different chains can host different consensus mechanisms, token economics, and ledger models.
Through implementing the proprietary Boson consensus, the bottom layer is highly flexible and supports cross shard transactions and contract deployment. Different DeFi contracts can be deployed on different shards to realize different effects. As such, the DeFi functionalities of QuarkChain has the following advantages:
  1. High usability of its services: through multi-chain/shard design, the entire network can horizontally expand based on the demand of users’ throughput. The maximum throughput capacity of the entire network, after third-party verification, can reach million TPS or above. Moreover, when there appears popular applications, the application will only affect the shard chain that the application is located with no effects on the other shards, which greatly enhances the usability of the network.
  2. Low transaction fees: The high throughput of QuarkChain also brings about another great advantage which is to significantly lower users’ transaction fees. We expect to lower the fees by tenfold, if not more. The advantages of low transaction fees can help realize more DeFi scenarios that were previously impossible on the Ethereum platform due to fee concerns, such as multi-asset combinations, multi-contract deployment, or high frequency operations.
  3. Multinative assets: Native token refers to tokens that are directly issued by the blockchain infrastructure for maintaining normal operations. These tokens are used for realizing equity and for implementing fixed functions of the blockchain systems. Prime examples are Bitcoin, Ethereum, and QKC. On the basis of application protocols, tokens that are built on top of existing blockchain systems and are used for deploying smart contracts are known as smart contract tokens. It is widely adopted on the dApps of different public chains, of which ERC20 protocol is the most famous.99% of the tokens issued on public chains are smart contract tokens. Compared to native tokens, smart contract tokens are like second-class citizens which have many limitations, one of which is its inability to pay for transaction fees. QuarkChain allows developers and users to issue native assets to directly pay for transaction fees and participate in DeFi activities with no needs to purchase QKC. In addition, from the developers’ standpoint, they only need to maintain one set of code to support many DeFi contracts that support different multinative assets, which makes the development process more efficient.
  4. Composability of cross-chain DeFi: While there are multiple shards running, there will be challenges as to how to use cross-chain protocol to realize users’ participation of DeFi activities across different chains. This is also known as the problem of composability. Q: Can I run a Chaosnet Darknode and Mainnet Darknode at the same time (on the same computer). A: No, if you want to do that you’ll have to run them on separate computers.

Q: You mentioned DCEP in your latest piece and "12 App Ideas", but it's going to run on a centralized private network. The Bank of England also just released a report on how they're thinking about their CBDC and DLT/centralization, and stress that a DLT could add resilience, but there's also no reason a currency couldn't be more centralized. The Block reported that other central banks (like the EU and Singapore) are considering third-party chains like Corda. Can you comment on which CBDC designs may or may not be compatible with RZL? You previously said "RZL sMPC provides ECDSA signatures because that’s what it is used by Ethereum, Bitcoin, etc. Whatever solution they come up with, will be the solution that RZL has to be upgraded to use (the whole point of RenVM is not to tell other chains how to do things, and still provide interop; this means waiting on them to define their solution and then working with that)." So, what does centralization mean for RZL, and how can we think about compatibility between these designs on the technical side?
A: The topic of centralisation in interoperability comes down to the compounding effect of using multiple networks. Put another way “you’re only as decentralised as your most centralised component”. While there are nuances to this, the core idea rings true.
RenVM can be used to interoperate many different kinds of chains (anything using ECDSA, or naturally supporting lively threshold signatures) is a candidate to be included in RenVM. However, a centralised currency that has been bridged to a decentralised chain is not decentralised. The centralised entity that controls the currency might say “nothing transferred to/from this other chain will be honoured”. That’s a risk that you take with centralised currencies (take a look at the T&Cs for USDC for example).
The benefit of RenVM in these instances is to become a standard. Short-term, RenVM brings interoperability to some core chains. Medium-term, it expands that to other more interesting chains based on community demands. Long-term, it becomes the standard for how to implement interop. For example: you create a new chain and don’t worry about interop explicitly because you know RenVM will have your back. For centralised currencies this is still advantageous, because the issuing entity only has to manage one chain (theirs) but can still get their currency onto other chains/ecosystems.
From a technical perspective, the Darknodes just have to be willing to adopt the chain/currency.

Q: dApps will have their own risk tolerances for centralized assets. Eg USDC was a bigger deal for MakerDAO than Uniswap. If CBDC liquidity were suddenly bridgeable, some dApps would be more eager to adopt it than others - even despite the risks - because they provide native liquidity and can be used to store/hedge in it without cashing it out. My question is more technical as it relates to RenVM as the "Universal Stablecoin Converter". You sound convinced that RenVM can bridge Libra, DCEP, maybe other CBDCs in the future, but I'm skeptical how RenVM works with account-based currencies. (1) Are we even sure of DCEP's underlying design and whether it or other CBDCs even plan to use digital signatures? And (2) wouldn't RenVM need a KYC-approved account to even get an address on these chains? It seems like DCEP would have to go through a Chinese Circle, who would just issue an ERC20.
A: As far as underlying blockchain technology goes (eg the maths of it) I don’t see there being any issues. Until we know more about whether or not KYCd addresses are required (and if they are, how they work), then I can’t specifically comment on that. However, it is more than possible not to require RenVM to be KYCd (just like you can’t “KYC Ethereum”) and instead move that requirement to addresses on the host blockchain (eg KYC Ethereum addresses for receiving the cross-chain asset). Whether this happens or not would ultimately be up to whether the issuer wanted interoperability to be possible.

Q: In that scenario, how would RenVM even receive the funds to be transferred to the KYC'd Ethereum address? For Alice to send DCEP to Bob's KYC'd Ethereum address, RenVM would need a DCEP address of its own, no?
A: Again, this is impossible to say for certain without knowing the implementation of the origin chain. You could whitelist known RenVM scripts (by looking at their form, like RenVM itself does on Bitcoin). But mostly likely, these systems will have some level of smart contract capabilities and this allows very flexible control. You can just whitelist the smart contract address that RenVM watches for cross-chain events. In origin chains with smart contracts, the smart contract holds the funds (and the keys the smart contract uses to authorise spends are handled as business logic). So there isn’t really a “RenVM public address” in the same sense that there is in Bitcoin.
Q: The disbonding period for Darknodes seem long, what happens if there is a bug?
A: It’s actually good for the network to have a long disbonding period in the face of a bug. If people were able to panic sell, then not only would the bug cause potential security issues, but so too would a mass exodus of Darknodes from the network.
Having time to fix the bug means that Darknodes may as well stick around and continue securing the network as best they can. Because their REN is at stake (as you put it) they’re incentivised to take any of the recommended actions and update their nodes as necessary.
This is also why it’s critical for the Greycore to exist in the early days of the network and why we are rolling out SubZero the way that we are. If such a bug becomes apparent (more likely in the early days than the later days), then the Greycore has a chance to react to it (the specifics of which would of course depend on the specifics of the bug). This becomes harder and slower as the network becomes more decentralised over time.
Not mcap, but the price of bonded Ren. Furthermore, the price will be determined by how much fees darknodes have collected. BTW, loongy could you unveil based on what profits ratio/apr the price will be calculated?
This is up to the Darknodes to governance softly. This means there isn’t a need for an explicit oracle. Darknodes assess L vs R individually and vote to increase fees to drive L down and drive R up. L is driven down by continue fees, whereas R is driven up by minting/burning fees.

Q: How do you think renvm would perform on a day like today when even cexs are stretched. Would the system be able to keep up?
A: This will really depend on the number of shards that RenVM is operating. Shards operate in parallel so more shards = more processing power.

Q: The main limiting factor is the speed of the underlying chain, rather than RenVM?
A: That’s generally the case. Bitcoin peaks at about 7 TPS so as long as we are faster than this, any extra TPS is “wasted”. And you actually don’t want to be faster than you have to be. This lets you drop hardware requirements, and lowering the cost of running a Darknode. This has two nice effects: (a) being an operator generates more profit because costs are lower, and (b) it’s more accessible to more people because it’s a little cheaper to get started (albeit this is minor).

Q: Just getting caught up on governance, but what about: unbonded REN = 1 vote, bonded REN = (1 vote + time_served). That'd be > decentralization of Darknodes alone, an added incentive to be registered, and counter exchanges wielding too much control.
A: You could also have different decaying rates. For example, assuming that REN holders have to vote by “backing” the vote of Darknodes:
Let X be the amount of REN used to voted, backed behind a Darknode and bonded for T time.
Let Y be the amount of time a Darknode has been active for.
Voting power of the Darknode could = Sqrt(Y) * Log(X + T)
Log(1,000,000,000) = ~21 so if you had every REN bonded behind you, your voting power would only be 21x the voting power of other nodes. This would force whales to either run Darknodes for a while and contribute actively to the ecosystem (or lock up their REN for an extended period for addition voting power), and would force exchanges to spread their voting out over many different nodes (giving power back to those running nodes). Obviously the exchange could just run lots of Darknodes, but they would have to do this over a long period of time (not feasible, because people need to be able to withdraw their REN).

Q: Like having superdelegates, i.e, nodes trusted by the community with higher voting power? Maybe like council nodes
A: Well, this is essentially what the Greycore is. Darknodes that have been voted in by the community to act as a secondary signature on everything. (And, interestingly enough, you could vote out all members to remove the core entirely.)

Q: Think the expensive ren is a security feature as well. So, doubt this would impact security potentially? I don’t know. I wouldn’t vote to cut my earnings by 40% for example lol
A: It can lead to centralisation over time though. If 100K REN becomes prohibitively expensive, then you will only see people running Darknodes that can afford a large upfront capital investment. In the mid/long-term this can have adverse effects on the trust in the system. It’s important that people “external” to the system (non-Darknodes) can get themselves into the system. Allowing non-Darknodes to have some governance (even if it’s not overall things) would be critical to this.

Q: That darknode option sounds very interesting although it could get more centralized as the price of 100k Ren rises.For instance dark nodes may not want to vote to lower the threshold from 100k to 50k once Ren gets too expensive.
A: A great point. And one of the reasons it would be ideal to be able to alter those parameters without just the Darknodes voting. Otherwise, you definitely risk long-term centralisation.

Q: BTC is deposited into a native BTC address, but who controls this address (where/how is this address’s private key stored)?
A: This is precisely the magic behind RenVM. RenVM uses an MPC algorithm to generate the controlling private key. No one ever sees this private key, and no one can sign things with it without consensus from everyone else.

CoinEx Accelerators, futures, options, CoinEx Lending, CoinEx DEX, CoinEx Chain, the key account privilege system, and a new value system for CET… We have completed what may take others four or five years, but we also know that a complete ecosystem is the first step to achieve our ambitions. CoinEx still has a long way to go, and what we are doing now is just a small part.
With the arrival of 2020, the blockchain world has embraced its eleventh year, and CoinEx has also ushered in its third year of growth. I am very grateful to every user who has always been supporting CoinEx. It is your encouragement along the way that makes it possible for me to share with you our progress in 2019 and look into 2020. Now I’m going to explain to you in details of what CoinEx has gone through in the past year and every new breakthrough it has achieved.

First, users are our first priority: 24-hour online customer service and key account privileges

“Users first” is the service principle that CoinEx has always implemented, and the ultimate product experience is our basic practice in abiding by this concept.
As the chief product experience officer of CoinEx, I deliver one idea to the team on many occasions, that is, the most important for a product developer is the ability of instantly changing from an expert to a novice so that he or she can judge and design the product from users’ perspective. We want CoinEx to be a product that can be operated with ease even by a novice and a digital asset service platform that serves as a wallet. I believe that’s exactly what CoinEx means to its users as we really did it.
In addition, in order to serve users around the world, we have launched versions of ten languages, respectively Arabic, Italian, Malaysia, German, Ukraine, Portuguese, French, Turkish, Vietnamese and Indonesian, in 2019. CoinEx has become a global trading platform with the most languages.
High-quality and efficient service represents our efforts to implement the “users first” concept.
In 2019, CoinEx’s global customer service team expanded four times on the original basis, and gradually improved the customer service system in practice. At CoinEx, every customer service personnel must be strictly selected and trained from interview to induction. We strive to ensure that each customer service personnel can be timely, meticulous and professional in answering users’ questions so that our users can enjoy high-quality services. As long as you have any doubt, the CoinEx customer service team will be there for you around the clock.
On September 26, 2019, after months of user surveys and reference to the VIP service cases of hundreds of Fortune 500 companies, we officially launched a privilege program for key users. We must never be unworthy of every user’s trust, and we want every key user to enjoy his or her privileges at CoinEx. In addition to basic customer service, we provide them with “customized fast services” and “customized value-added services” from three aspects: the account, transaction, and service.

Second, build a complete product system: spot, futures, leveraged trading, options, perpetual contracts, CoinEx Lending, and Accelerator

In order to meet users’ diversified trading needs, we have refined our products carefully, and now we have established a complete product system covering spot, futures, leverage, options, perpetual contracts, wealth management products, and high-quality project accelerators.
Spot Trading
To enrich the asset classes of the spot market, the CoinEx Research Institute has dedicated itself to exploring and screening of global blockchain projects last year. At the end of 2019, there were 100 asset classes on CoinEx, a success in fulfilling the target set at the beginning of the year.
For trading depth, we have introduced preferential policies for market makers, which is to cooperate with excellent quantitative teams in the market and run operating campaigns to increase our asset liquidity.
Futures Trading
On July 15, 2019, we launched a new trading service — futures contracts, and opened five major trading markets: Binance Coin, Huobi Token, OKB, Polkadot, and Telegram Open Network. At the same time, our original Call Auction along with Short-term/Long-term price limit ensures the stability of Futures market and large fluctuations in futures prices can be avoided.
Leverage Trading
In 2019, we launched a leverage trading function that allows users to invest more with small funds.
Perpetual Contracts
In addition to futures trading, we have also developed perpetual contracts to support the trading of digital currency futures such as BTC, BCH, LTC and ETH to meet the needs of professional traders for high leverage and arbitrage, inter temporal arbitrage and hedging. Options Trading
In August 2019, we successfully launched a new derivatives trading market — options trading, a financial instrument based on futures. Compared with futures trading, options trading features lower risks, helping investors to profit from multiple dimensions.
CoinEx Lending
We launched CoinEx Lending, a wealth management product, which improves our derivatives services and provides users with an additional option for the pursuit of a stable investment. CoinEx Lending will distribute 70% of the platform’s interest from leveraged. Users only need to transfer the idle assets to CoinEx Lending to enjoy daily revenue, further enhancing their asset utilization.

In 2019, after rigorous screening and in-depth research by the CoinEx Research Institute, the CoinEx Accelerator screened 13 premium blockchain projects including SEELE and BNN for users. These projects have proved excellent in both technology and asset appreciation. Among the ten projects with the highest return on investment according to media statistics in 2019, technology-based SEELE was included in the list with a 400% increase.
At this point, CoinEx has completed the construction of the entire ecosystem for the product system. The cornerstone of the product has been solidified. What we need to do next is to make every function and service perfect.

Third, optimize the team structure and do something interesting with great minds

I once said that I wanted to create a company that is very fun, interesting, and awesome where some great minds are working on something exciting together. I have created the fun and interesting part. The main task of the past year is to find those great minds to join me.
In 2019, the team went through a period of confusion and groping. There are some problems in terms of both staffing and department collaboration. Fortunately, such troubles have been greatly relieved after two organizational structure adjustments.
In September 2019, Eddie, former Marketing Director at Bitmain, officially joined the CoinEx team. Eddie is an all-rounder with extensive experience in market operation and team management. I believe with him working with us, CoinEx will make greater breakthroughs in team management and brand building in the future.
In addition, we have attracted increasing outstanding talents for the past year, and have grown to a team with nearly 100 members. At present, we have established a complete team management system, incentive system and training system. I always believe that only when the team members are united as one and all do a great job, can we provide better services for users.

Fourth, it is the mission of a digital asset service platform to screen high-quality projects: to launch 100 high-quality projects

The abundant types of trading assets serve as the foundation of a digital asset service platform. In the past year, the CoinEx Research Institute has been committed to exploring and screening high-quality projects worldwide, increasing the types and number of tradable assets for users. I am proud to say that, as of December 31, 2019, CoinEx has launched 100 high-quality blockchain projects. We ensure that every project has undergone in-depth research and investigation by the think tank of the Research Institute, and is finally strictly appraised by the coin issuance decision committee before it goes online. We hope that each CoinEx user can avoid unnecessary risks and rest more assured in investment.
In 2020, we will continue to improve the asset list on CoinEx and provide users with global high-quality blockchain projects to further realize the vision of global and professional cryptocurrency exchange service provider.

Fifth, build the most solid cornerstone of the blockchain: CoinEx Chain, CoinEx DEX, and CET

At present, the public chain, the cornerstone of the blockchain industry, remains the bottleneck of the industry’s development, and the key still lies in technological breakthroughs. In 2019, CoinEx also explored the third generation of public chains. Our solution is three dedicated chains in parallel to achieve both performance and flexibility.
On Nov.11 last year, ViaBTC, Bitmain, Matrixport, and Bitcoin.com jointly launched the Mainnet of CoinEx Chain, a milestone in our journey towards the ambition.
CoinEx DEX is the first application scenario of CoinEx Chain. It is the world’s first DEX dedicated public chain developed on the Tendermint consensus protocol and Cosmos SDK, under the leadership of my good friend Jiazhi Jiang, a senior blockchain technology expert. CoinEx DEX is friendly to ordinary users who have zero experience in digital assets, and has made many innovations in applications and wallets.
After CoinEx Chain and CoinEx DEX went online, CET was also given higher value and mission. As the basic currency of the public chain ecosystem, it has more value sources than the income of the CoinEx platform. Now we can use CET to develop tools at CoinEx DEX, to open accounts, to purchase and modify account names, etc.

Sixth, CoinEx’s ecosystem and partners

In the past year, besides the fruitful results in products and ecosystem improvements, CoinEx has also gained many like-minded partners.

In 2019, CoinEx further upgraded the market maker’s preferential policies. Market makers on other platforms or other excellent maker strategy teams can directly match CoinEx market makers and enjoy privileges at a negligible rate in CoinEx.
CoinEx Chain nodes
On October 16, 2019, CoinEx Chain officially launched the global Node Election plan. We set off from Shenzhen to places such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Singapore to host offline campaigns. This year we will comprehensively upgrade our products to further enhance users’ experience, keep launching high-quality assets online at a steady pace to meet users’ more diversified demands for trading assets, accelerate globalization and compliance across the world, and launch a new Ambassador Program to drive the construction of CoinEx’s community.
As for the CoinEx Chain, we will focus on the development of the Smart Chain, perform two hard fork upgrades on the DEX Chain, and introduce high-quality stable coins, Defi and other applications.

This week, there were further losses in bitcoin below the $8,200 support area against the US Dollar. BTC extended its decline below the 100 hourly simple moving average and even tested the $8,000 support area.
A new monthly low was formed near $7,987 and the price is currently correcting higher. It traded above the $8,100 level and tested the $8,150 resistance area.

SegWit would make it HARDER FOR YOU TO PROVE YOU OWN YOUR BITCOINS. SegWit deletes the "chain of (cryptographic) signatures" - like MERS (Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems) deleted the "chain of (legal) title" for Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) in the foreclosure fraud / robo-signing fiasco

Summary (TL;DR)

Many people who study the financial crisis which started in 2008 know about "MERS", or "Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems" - a company / database containing over 62 million mortgages.
(The word "mortgages" may be unfamiliar to some non-English speakers - since it is not a cognate with most other languages. In French, they say "hypothèques", or "hipotecas" in Spanish, "Hypotheken" in German, etc).
The goal of MERS was to "optimize" the process of transferring "title" (legal ownership) of real-estate mortgages, from one owner to another.
But instead, in the 2010 "foreclosure crisis", MERS caused tens of billions of dollars in losses and damages - due to the "ususual" way it handled the crucial "ownership data" for real-estate mortgages - the data at the very heart of the database.

How did MERS handle this crucial "ownership data" for real-estate mortgages?
The "brilliant" idea behind MERS to "optimize" the process of conveying (transferring) mortgages was to separate - and eventually delete - all the data proving who transferred what to whom!
Hmm... that sounds vaguely familiar. What does that remind me of?
SegWit separating and then deleting the "chain of (cryptographic) signatures" for bitcoins sounds a lot like MERS separating and then deleting the "chain of (legal) title" for mortgages.
So, SegWit and MERS have a lot in common:
Of course, the "experts" (on Wall Street, and at AXA-owned Blockstream) present MERS and SegWit as "innovations" - as a way to "optimize" and "streamline" vast chains of transactions reflecting ownership and transfer of valuable items (ie, real-estate mortgages, and bitcoins).
But, unfortunately, the "brilliant bat-shit insane approach" devised by the "geniuses" behind MERS and SegWit to do this is to simply delete the data which proved ownership and transfer of these items - information which is essential for legal purposes (in the case of mortgages), or security purposes (in the case of bitcoins).
So, the most pernicious aspect of SegWit may be that it encourages deleting all of Bitcoin's cryptographic security data - destroying the "chain of signatures" which (according to the white paper) are what define what a "bitcoin" actually is.
Wow, deleting signatures with SegWit sounds bad. Can I avoid SegWit?

Insurance multinational AXA, while not a household name, is actually the second-most-connected "fiat finance" firm in the world.
AXA's former CEO Pierre Castries was head of the secretive Bilderberg Group of the world's ultra-rich. (Recently, he moved on to HSBC.)
Due to AXA's massive exposure to derivatives (bigger than any other insurance company), it is reasonable to assume that AXA would be destroyed if Bitcoin reaches trillions of dollars in market cap as a major "counterparty-free" asset class - which would actually be quite easy using simple & safe on-chain scaling - ie, just using bigger blocks, and no SegWit.
So, the above facts provide one plausible explanation of why AXA-owned Blockstream seems to be quietly trying to undermine Bitcoin...

While it is likely that most or all Core / Blockstream devs do not know about the MERS fiasco...
...it is 100% certain that people at AXA (the main owners of Blockstream) do know about MERS.
This is because the global financial crisis which started in 2008 was caused by:

So people at all the major "fiat finance firms" such as AXA would of course be aware of CDOs, MBSs and MERS - since these have been "hot topics" in their industry since the start of the global financial crisis in 2008.
Eerie parallels between MERS and SegWit

Loans originated with MERS as the original mortgagee purport to separate the borrower’s promissory note, which is made payable to the originating lender, from the borrower’s conveyance of a mortgage, which purportedly is granted to MERS. If this separation is legally incorrect - as every state supreme court looking at the issue has agreed - then the security agreements do not name an actual mortgagee or beneficiary.
The mortgage industry, however, has premised its proxy recording strategy on this separation, despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s holding that “the note and mortgage are inseparable.” [Compare with the language from Satoshi's whitepaper: "We define an electronic coin as a chain of digital signatures."]
If today’s courts take the Carpenter decision at its word, then what do we make of a document purporting to create a mortgage entirely independent of an obligation to pay? If the Supreme Court is right that a “mortgage can have no separate existence” from a promissory note, then a security agreement that purports to grant a mortgage independent of the promissory note attempts to convey something that cannot exist.

Courts around the country have long held that “there must be, in every grant, a grantor, a grantee and a thing granted, and a deed wanting in either essential is absolutely void.”
The parallels between MERS and SegWit are obvious and inescapable.
Note that I am not arguing here that SegWit could be vulnerable to attacks from a strictly legal perspective. (Although that may be possible to.)
I am simply arguing that SegWit, because it encourages deleting the (cryptographic) signature data which defines "bitcoins", could eventually be vulnerable to attacks from a cryptographic perspective.
But I heard that SegWit is safe and tested!
Yeah, we've heard a lot of lies from Blockstream, for years - and meanwhile, they've only succeeded in destroying Bitcoin's market cap, due to unnecessarily high fees and unnecessarily slow transactions.
Now, in response to those legal-based criticisms of SegWit in the article from nChain, several so-called "Bitcoin legal experts" have tried to rebut that those arguments from nChain were somehow "flawed".
But if you read the rebuttals of these "Bitcoin legal experts", they sound a lot like the clueless "experts" who were cheerleading MERS for its "efficiency" - and who ended up costing tens billions of dollars in losses when the "chain of title" for mortgages held in the MERS database became "clouded" after all the crucial "ownership data" got deleted in the name of "efficiency" and "optimization".
In their attempt to rebut the article by nChain, these so-called "Bitcoin legal experts" use soothing language like "optimization" and "pragmatic" to try to lull you into believing that deleting the "chain of (cryptographic) signatures" for your bitcoins will be just as safe as deleting the "chain of (legal) notes" for mortgages:

The (unsigned!) article on CoinDesk attempting to rebut Nguyen's article on nChain starts by stating:
Nguyen's criticisms fly in the face of what has emerged as broad support for the network optimization, which has been largely embraced by the network's developers, miners and startups as a pragmatic step forward.
Then it goes on to quote "Bitcoin legal experts" who claim that using SegWit to delete Bitcoin's cryptographic signatures will be just fine:
Marco Santori, a fintech lawyer who leads the blockchain tech team at Cooley LLP, for example, took issue with what he argued was the confused framing of the allegation.
Santori told CoinDesk:
"It took the concept of what is a legal contract, and took the position that if you have a blockchain signature it has something to do with a legal contract."
And:
Stephen Palley, counsel at Washington, DC, law firm Anderson Kill, remarked similarly that the argument perhaps put too much weight on the idea that the "signatures" involved in executing transactions on the bitcoin blockchain were or should be equivalent to signatures used in digital documents.
"It elides the distinction between signature and witness data and a digital signature, and they're two different things," Palley said.
And:
"There are other ways to cryptographically prove a transaction is correctly signed other than having a full node," said BitGo engineer Jameson Lopp. "The assumption that if a transaction is in the blockchain, it's probably valid, is a fairly good guarantee."
Legal experts asserted that, because of this design, it's possible to prove that the transaction occurred between parties, even if those involved did not store signatures.
For this reason, Coin Center director Jerry Brito argued that nChain is overstating the issues that would arise from the absence of this data.
"If you have one-time proof that you have the bitcoin, if you don't have it and I have it, logically it was signed over to me. As long as somebody in the world keeps the signature data and it's accessible, it's fine," he said.
There are several things you can notice here:
  • These so-called "Bitcoin legal experts" are downplaying the importance of signatures in Bitcoin - just like the "experts" behind MERS downplayed the importance of "notes" for mortgages.
  • Satoshi said that a bitcoin is a "chain of digital signatures" - but these "Bitcoin legal experts" are now blithely asserting that we can simply throw the "chain of digital signatures" in the trash - and we can be "fairly" certain that everything will "probably" be ok.
  • The "MERS = SegWit" argument which I'm making is not based on interpreting Bitcoin signatures in any legal sense (although some arguments could be made along those lines).
  • Instead, I'm just arguing that any "ownership database" which deletes its "ownership data" (whether it's MERS or SegWit) is doomed to end in disaster - whether that segregated-and-eventually-deleted "ownership data" is based on law (with MERS), or cryptography (with SegWit).
Who's right - Satoshi or the new "Bitcoin experts"?
You can make up your own mind.
Personally, I will never send / receive / store large sums of money using any "SegWit" bitcoin addresses.
This, is not because of any legal considerations - but simply because I want the full security of "the chain of (cryptographic) signatures" - which, according to the whitepaper, is the very definition of what a bitcoin "is".

  • The "clever devs" from AXA-owned Blockstream (and a handful of so-called "Bitcoin legal experts) say "Trust us, it is safe to delete the chain of signatures proving ownership and transfer of bitcoins". They're pushing "SegWit" - the most radical change in the history of Bitcoin. As I have repeatedly discussed, SegWit weakens Bitcoin's security model.
  • The people who support Satoshi's original Bitcoin (and clients which continue to implement it: Bitcoin ABC, Bitcoin Unlimited, Bitcoin, Bitcoin Classic - all supporting "Bitcoin Cash" - ie "Bitcoin" without SegWit) say "Trust no one. You should never delete the chain of signatures proving ownership and transfer of your bitcoins."
  • Satoshi said:

We define an electronic coin as a chain of digital signatures.

  • So, according to Satoshi, a "chain of digital signatures" is the very definition of what a bitcoin is.
  • Meanwhile according to some ignorant / corrupt devs from AXA-owned Blockstream (and a handful of "Bitcoin legal experts") now suddenly it's "probably" "fairly" safe to just throw Satoshi's "chain of digital signatures" in the trash - all in the name of "innovation" and "efficiency" and "optimization" - because they're so very clever.

Finally, here's another blatant lie from SegWit supporters (and small-block supporters)
Let's consider this other important quote from Satoshi's whitepaper above:
A payee can verify the signatures to verify the chain of ownership.
Remember, this is what "small blockers" have always been insisting for years.
They've constantly been saying that "blocks need to be 1 MB!!1 Waah!1!" - even though several years ago the Cornell study showed that blocks could already be 4 MB, with existing hardware and bandwidth.
But small-blockers have always insisted that everyone should store the entire blockchain - so they can verify their own transactions.
But hey, wait a minute!
Now they turn around and try to get you to use SegWit - which allows deleting the very data which insisted that you should download and save locally to verify your own transactions!
So, once again, this exposes the so-called "arguments" of small-blocks supporters as being fake arguments and lies:
  • On the one hand, they (falsely) claim that small blocks are necessary in order for everyone to be run "full nodes" because (they claim) that's the only way people can personally verify all their own transactions. By the way, there are already several errors here with what they're saying:
    • Actually "full nodes" is a misnomer (Blockstream propaganda). The correct terminology is "full wallets", because only miners are actually "nodes".
    • Actually 1 MB "max blocksize" is not necessary for this. The Cornell study showed that we could easily be using 4 MB or 8 MB blocks by now - since, as everyone knows, the average size of most web pages is already over 2 MB, and everyone routinely downloads 2 MB web pages in a matter of seconds, so in 10 minutes you could download - and upload - a lot more than just 2 MB. But whatever.
  • On the other hand, they support SegWit - and the purpose of SegWit is to allow people to delete the "signature data".
    • This conflicts with their argument the everyone should personally verify all their own transactions. For example, above, Coin Center director Jerry Brito was saying: "As long as somebody in the world keeps the signature data and it's accessible, it's fine."
    • So which is it? For years, the "small blockers" told us we needed to all be able to personally verify everything on our own node. And now SegWit supporters are telling us: "Naah - you can just rely on someone else's node."
    • Plus, while the transactions are still being sent around on the wire, the "signature data" is still there - it's just "segregated" - so you're not getting any savings on bandwidth anyways - you'd only get the savings if you delete the "signature data" from storage.
    • Storage is cheap and plentiful, it's never been the "bottleneck" in the system. Bandwidth is the main bottleneck - and SegWit doesn't help that at all, because it still transmits all the data.
Conclusion
So if you're confused by all the arguments from small-blockers and SegWitters, there's a good reason: their "arguments" are total bullshit and lies. They're attempting to contradict and destroy:
  • Satoshi's original design of Bitcoin as a "chain of digital signatures":
"We define an electronic coin as a chain of digital signatures. Each owner transfers the coin to the next by digitally signing a hash of the previous transaction and the public key of the next owner and adding these to the end of the coin. A payee can verify the signatures to verify the chain of ownership."
  • Satoshi's plan for scaling Bitcoin by simply increasing the goddamn blocksize:

  • The the notorious mortgage database MERS, pushed by clueless and corrupt Wall Street bankers, deleted the "chain of (legal) title" which had been essential to show who conveyed what mortgages to whom - leading to "clouded titles", foreclosure fraud, and robo-signing.
  • The notorious SegWit soft fork / kludge, pushed by clueless and corrupt AXA-owned Blockstream devs, allows deleting the "chain of (cryptographic) signatures" which is essential to show who sent how many bitcoins to whom - which could lead to a catastrophe for people who foolishly use SegWit addresses (which can be avoided: unsafe "SegWit" bitcoin addresses start with a "3" - while safe, "normal" Bitcoin addresses start with a "1").
  • Stay safe and protect your bitcoin investment: Avoid SegWit transactions.
